Our Curriculum Intent

At Primrose Lane our Design and Technology curriculum promotes a holistic approach to supporting children to become designers and makers, encouraging them to be creative, innovative and to develop practical skills including sewing and food technology. By integrating Design and Technology across all year groups, we ensure that every student can develop key skills that will serve them well in their academic and personal lives.  Our curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced, and engaging, allowing students to learn a wide range of design and technology skills and techniques, including mechanisms and sliders, textiles, food technology, and electrical systems.

We teach Design and Technology to empower students to become confident and competent designers and makers. Our intent is to provide students with a platform to explore their creativity, develop practical skills, and engage in hands-on learning experiences that are both challenging and rewarding. Through our curriculum, we aim to instil a love for problem-solving, innovation, and critical thinking in our students, preparing them to thrive in an ever-evolving technological world. Our Design and Technology curriculum is appropriate for our pupils as it fosters a hands-on, practical approach to learning that caters to different learning styles and abilities. By engaging in real-life projects, students can see the direct application of their learning, making the subject relevant and engaging for all learners.

Our Design and Technology curriculum meets the requirements of the National Curriculum by providing students with opportunities to use their creative skills and imagination to design, make, and evaluate products. Through the use of real-life products as learning tools, students are encouraged to think creatively and problem-solve as part of the design process. This approach ensures that students develop the technical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.
