School Ethos
Our aims
We want Primrose Lane to be a happy and healthy place to learn. For staff, we want our school to be a happy and healthy place to work. We want everyone to be the best they can be.
Our primary aim is to ensure that every member of our school community feels happy, valued and respected, and that each person is treated fairly and well. Everyone has the right to feel safe at all times. We are a caring community with mutual trust and respect for all. We want all children to feel proud to be part of our Primrose Lane School Community.
Our expectations
At Primrose Lane we expect everyone to behave well and to help guide our community we use three words to represent our school rules: ready, respectful, and safe.
In practice this means the following:
To show that we are ready . . .
|
To show that we are respectful . . .
|
To show that we are safe . . .
|
This is not an exhaustive list and each teacher will adapt what ‘ready’, ‘respectful’ and ‘safe’ mean according to the needs and development stage of their class.
Behaviour is communication
At Primrose Lane we have a strong Safeguarding focus, and this means we believe ‘behaviour is communication’. We always carefully consider and investigate what may be causing concerning behaviour. Behaviour which is distracting for others (not ready), or not respectful, or is harmful physically or emotionally (not safe) will always be addressed. All behaviour is communication and often distracting behaviour is linked to other factors such as the expectations of the learning, an event that has happened, an emotional need or linked to a child’s neurodiversity.
Zones of Regulation
At Primrose Lane we use the Zones of regulation to support personal development helping all children to develop emotional literacy and way to communicate how they are feeling. Zones of Regulation teaches children that all types of feelings are ok and how they can manage these in a safe and appropriate way.
Our ethos
Together, these aims, expectations and values create our school ethos and shape the ways in which we interact with each other and ensure our school is a happy and healthy place to learn and work, and that we can all be the best that we can be.
